Flocculation and Sedimentation

The Floccin products have proven to be more cost effective than the conventional steps of pH adjusting, coagulation, flocculation, and the use of dewatering aids such as pearlite or diatomaceous earth. The Floccin products usually replace 3 chemistries with 1 and in many cases replaces 5 products. This greatly simplifies the wastewater treatment operation and variability of the treated water.

In batch operations or clarification, the Floccin products have greater settling rates. Batch systems can settle the solids in 20 minutes versus 2+ hours. In clarifiers, the increased settling rate allows a higher hydraulic loading thereby increasing the throughput. This unique charateristic of Floccin polymers increases the capacity of wastewater treatment system especially beneficial where wastewater flow-rate has increased beyond design parameters. The sludge generated has a higher shear strength generating a drier cake without dewatering aids (No need for DE precoat).

A strong aspect is the ability of the Floccin products to work over a wide pH range. Traditional chemistry has a very tight ph range of operation for metal removal or emulsion breaking. The Floccin products require a wider pH range thereby savings in acid/base costs as well as lowered effluent EC/TDS levels.

Our blends encapsulate the contaminants in a barrier, producing an easily disposable waste sludge and water that can often go right down the drain.

Each blend provides a multitude of reactions that simultaneously coagulate, break emulsified oils in water, change the pH, encapsulate the metals, and flocculate to separate the solids from the wastewater stream.

In metals removal, the effluent water quality has lowered concentrations. In high fats/oils/grease wastewater, the Floccin products have a higher affinity to reduce these over a wider pH range.

Poultry Processor wastewater

Floccin J allowed a 180,000 gpd processor to thicken solids so they could be trucked off site, their old chemistry couldn’t do that! A small process change and “Floccin J” they saved 70% in their total treatment cost. Best of all the processor can now increase production without the expense of expanding their treatment facility.

Milk / Cheese Processor wastewater

A 50,000 gpd dairy processor struggling to balance budgetary constraints and city treatment requirements found it all in Floccin D. They were able to replace 5 chemical with one Floccin product, meet their tougher discharge requirements and stay within budget.

Corrugator wastewater

The facility was treating their wastewater with a competitors product at a cost of $290/batch. After switching to Floccin J the cost per batch went down to $125. In addition the operator reported clearer water, drier de-watered cake, and more reliable and consistent treatment.

Fruit Processor wastewater

A Fruit processor was amazed at the solids removal from their DAF and the simplicity of our Floccin products. Floccin D reduced their 4 chemicals into one easy to use product that worked great at 4.0– 11.0 pH. range, traditional chemistry couldn’t do that! They also saw a 34% reduction in their overall treatment expense.

Metal Processor wastewater

This facility was in and out of compliance with copper due to the chelating effect of their mold releasing agents, which kept the copper in solution. Combining Floccin A with our powerful metal precipitant IE-060, their copper levels dropped to 0.15 ppm. Even this performance came at a reduced cost per gallon treated.
